Indoor Storm Audio Reviews
A note about our reviews. Many of our "house" reviews are very simple in nature, they offer images, spec lists, and either video or audio clips for you to enjoy. Our sincere hope is that you take a good look through the catalog of reviews, compare sounds and features and then make a really informed decision about musical instruments. On many we do offer some comments about the gear, but it is our opinion/ recommendations etc. We are not nieve enough to believe that one guitar or amp, heck any instrument is the perfect one for every player of that instrument. So one professional to another - check them all out, enjoy them for what they are, send us feedback and learn as much as you possibly can about your instrument. Use these reviews to make a good purchase decision, even if it means a purchase from someone else or a used piece of gear. We will be here a LONG time and are very pleased you have decided to use this free resource, someday we would love to have you as a customer of Indoor Storm. If you think this is a great service before the sale, you should try us out for during and after!
John Suhr's CAE OD-100
Well, this year Christmas came early – After over a 3 year wait, John Suhr’s Custom Audio Amp – The OD-100 has finally landed!
If you are not familiar with the OD-100, she was originally only available through Custom Audio Electronics even though she was John’s design (as well as the 3 channel CAE Preamp) – but is now being built and distributed by John’s JS Technologies Inc. which will make them much more accessible.
Players such as Mike Landau,Warren Hayes and Scott Henderson (of which there is a model with his name ) have roared through the OD-100 for quite a while – and with this bunch I do mean roared!!!
The Amp is a mean, bone crushing instrument of tone
100 watts powered by a quartet of 5881 power tubes, she has great clean head room and an incredibly aggressive solo channel.
Each channel has a bright and gain boost switch (the dirty channel Boost switch has an internal pot for adjusting the proper amount of gain for your own personal solo tone) plus it’s own gain/volume/mid/bass/treble controls. This is a very simple and straight forward setup that makes it very easy to get your sound in each channel without affecting the other.
Attributes and controls

Designed after years of painstaking research and development with some of the finest guitarists in the industry, the OD-100 is a two channel 3 mode amp capable of a wide variety of vintage to modern tones. It's straightforward design and rugged construction is simple to use, yet extremely versatile. • Front panel or remote controlled allows for a more aggressive tonality while providing increased level and overdrive.
• A tube buffered series effects loop is provided along with a return level control (power section master volume) to allow interfacing with a wide variety of effects devices. The loop circuit and return level control are only in the signal path when cables are connected to the effects loop. The individual channel master level controls act as effects send levels and the return level control then acts as an overall master volume when the loop is used. The effects send jack is always active and is useful as a low impedance preamp section line out.
• 4-5881 power tubes with a custom designed output transformer.
• Worldwide line voltage capability utilizing standard or European fusing.
• Regulated DC heaters for the 6 12AX7 preamp tubes provide low noise and increased tube life.

• Channel 2 (Overdrive) Controls:Effects loop with a return level and footswitch jack located on the rear panel.
• 2 speaker outs each for 4 and 8 ohm cabs and 1 speaker out for a 16 ohm cab.

So, how does she sound?
The clean channel certainly has enough sound and enough headroom to play funk or jazz and with the gain boost engaged we are definitely talking the “Big Time Single Coil Neck Pickup Blues Tone” – actually I could probably get away with just the first channel.
The Second channel is the beast channel - She has a ton of gain and utter girth that makes your strings sound like they are an inch thick!!! Some folks questioned whether she had enough gain after we did our first sound clips (this was done with a chambered Suhr –s/s/h) but I only had the gain on 6 – believe me there is plenty gain to be had – Steve Stevens would not use an amp that had a wimpy tone and John is building one for him right now for the new Billy Idol project.
The second clip we did with a PRS McCarty I gave her a little more juice – about 3/4s of the way up on the gain – and she had even more of a bad attitude.
