Let's get to the bottom, er middle, of the Anti-Vibe Stick!
The Avedis Zildjian Company has released a new model of sticks called the Anti-Vibe. After fielding a number of questions about them, we decided to take a closer look at them to try to figure out what exactly was going on. We decided to take a very close look at them...
We knew that the butt of the stick had been hollowed out and that there was a rubber stopper in the end, but we wanted to know more. We marked off the end of the stick in half inch increments and used our circular saw to see what we could find out.
When we made the first cut, we found that the rubber stopper was approximately a half inch long and that the hollowed out area was roughly 2 inches long.
The rubber stopper seemed to be very lightly glued into place, maybe silicon (?) and was forced into the end of the shaft.
The rest of the cuts were elementary, we were just looking to find the end of the hollowed out area. Cut 2 at the 1 inch point.
Cut three at the one and half inch point.
At cut four we hit pay-dirt. The hollowed out chamber was 2 inches into the shaft. This dimension seemed to be far enough in to absorb a noticeable amount of shock, though not too far in to change the balance point or center of balance to where it would feel odd or would make you choke up on the stick too much.
So armed with the knowledge that the hollowed out point was 2 inches we were content to close out this inaugural installment of IBNTII with a feeling of someone who had discovered information that is indeed interesting, but not terribly important. Though that was our goal... Until next time, take care!
