We are excited to introduce these new single-coil pickups developed in conjunction with Kirk Fletcher of the Fabulous Thunderbirds and the great Mike Landau. These pickups started out as a handwound copy of the single-coil pickups in Mike’s ’63 Strat and slowly evolved into what they are now – juicy and hotter than those vintage single-coils but still retaining all the clarity, chime and sparkle. Allen Hinds recently got a set and was so amazed that he immediately ordered another set to put in his main Strat. Kirk and Mike have installed these new single-coils on all of their Suhr and Fender guitars as well.
These pickups are a complete departure from the V60/V60LP design. We considered calling it the V60HP (for High Peak resonance), but John felt these pickups don’t belong in that family group since the voicing and the winding patterns are completely different. The new FL’s round out our single-coil pickup line and offers a slightly hotter and juicier version of the early-60’s style sound with the high-end clarity and chime of the 50’s designs.
